If you’ve been told that you have gum disease
and that surgery will be required, first find out if you are a candidate for non-surgical LANAP
protocol. Smile Savers Dentistry is one of the few dental practices in Columbia, Maryland that offers LANAP as an alternative to traditional gum surgery.
Cynicism has been a constant companion to the LANAP approach for non-surgical treatment of gum disease. Since the market introduction of the protocol back in 1999, it's been met with skepticism. To this day, even doctors training in the LANAP protocol find the successful results hard to believe. The typical initial reaction from doctors was “This just can’t be possible. I’ll keep track of my own results and I’ll see for myself.”
The first periodontist to adopt the LANAP protocol, Dr. Lloyd Tilt, collected over 9 years of clinical data. In 2012, he published “Effectiveness of LANAP Over Time as Measured by Tooth Loss”
in General Dentistry.
In Inside Dentistry in 2015 , “An Alternative to Conventional Periodontal Surgery: A look at a minimally invasive approach using the LANAP® protocol"
discussed how the LANAP protocol provides excellent results.
Just last year, there was a case study where a doctor treated a 62 year-old Type 2 diabetic suffering from periodontal disease using the LANAP protocol. The patient also had Type IV chronic adult periodontitis. At nine months, his tissues appeared pink with no inflammation and his radiographs revealed new bone growth.
Even with all of LANAP's reported successes and our own compilation of patient success stories, some our patients were also doubtful at first.
“I was extremely skeptical about the claims regarding the lack of pain and significant results to be expected from the LANAP gum treatment. I have to admit all of the claims were true and the results were vastly better than expected... By a week I was blown away by the results and no discomfort!”
